Capper Foundation
- The Capper Foundation was founded in 1920 by Senator
Arthur Capper to provide services for children with

deterioration of the Peripheral Neuropathic Nervous System

Prickly/Tingling Sensations, Memory lapses, very sensitive
to heat & heat exhaustion & related problems, sometimes
dizziness, Extreme Pain, and Bladder and/or bowel problems
usually caused by the medication's for the extreme pain [ie.
morphine, Demoral, Valium for muscle spasms and so forth].
College and Career Programs for Deaf Students - The
publication costs for this book have been shared by
Gallaudet University and by the National Technical
Institute for the Deaf (NTID), a college of Rochester
Institute of Technology, as a public service to deaf
students. Also, the Gallaudet Research Institute
contributed a great deal of personnel time in the
collection of information and the preparation of this
volume. Programs and services offered by Gallaudet
University and the National Technical Institute for the
Deaf (NTID) receive substantial financial support from the
Department of Education. Both institutions are Equal

Epilepsy
Foundation of America (EFA) - Epilepsy (also known as
a seizure disorder) is a chronic condition which produces
sudden disturbances in the normal electrical functions of
the brain.These disturbances produce more than 20
different types of seizures affecting consciousness,
movement, or sensation. Medication controls or reduces the
number of seizures for many people. Others are more
severely affected. Social rejection and discrimination
also complicate life for many of the more than two and a
half million Americans with epilepsy. One hundred and
twenty-five thousand new cases develop every year among
people of all ages. In the majority of cases, the cause is
unknown.

Interstitial Cystitis
Association (Home) - My name is Dr. Vicki Ratner. As a
young medical student, I began to experience some disturbing
bladder symptoms for which my own physicians could provide
little relief. I began my own research and determined that I
probably suffered from a little-known and less-researched
condition known as interstitial cystitis. In 1984 I launched
the Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA), dedicated to
providing information and support to the hundreds of thousands
of Americans who suffer-- many of them in silence or
ignorance--from this debilitating disease.

Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy (RSD) - RSD is a descriptive term meaning a
complex disorder or group of disorders that may develop as
a consequence of trauma affecting the limbs, with or
without an obvious nerve lesion. RSD may also develop
after visceral diseases, and central nervous system
lesions, or, rarely, without an obvious antecedent event.
It consists of pain and related sensory abnormalities,
abnormal blood flow and sweating, abnormalities in the
motor system and changes in structure of both superficial
and deep tissues ("trophic" changes). It is not necessary
that all components are present. It is agreed that the
name "reflex sympathetic dystrophy" is used in a
descriptive sense and does not imply specific underlying
mechanisms.

Stroke

concerning SCD - 17% of all SCD patients suffer a stroke.
Of all people with sickle cell anemia, children have the
highest stroke risk. Their risk is greatest between ages
of five and sixteen. Children with sickle cell disease are
300 times more likely than normal children to have a
stroke. Of the children who had a stroke and survived, 70%
will have a second stroke and it usually occurs within 36
months of the first stroke.

computers, students and instructors alike need to be aware
of the hazard of Repetitive Strain Injury to the hands and
arms resulting from the use of computer keyboards and
mice. This can be a serious and very painful condition
that is far easier to prevent than to cure once
contracted, and can occur even in young physically fit
individuals. It is not uncommon for people to have to
